Walking downhill from Plaza de la Encina towards the Castle, along Gil y Carrasco Street, on the Way of St James, you will find this stone building known as Las Cuadras, adjoining the walls of the Templar fortress.
It was built in 1848 using stone from the former Carmen Convent, located near the present-day pilgrims’ hostel. Its original purpose was to provide stables for the town market held there.
The building features a symmetrical façade with rubble-stone walls and a central entrance bearing the date of construction and the town’s coat of arms. This leads into a cobbled courtyard where a beautiful cherry tree has been preserved.
It currently houses the Ponferrada Tourist Office.
